Vishay’s Enhanced IR Transceiver Modules with Longer Link Distance and Improved ESD Robustness

Series of Infrared (IR) Transceiver Modules
Series of Infrared (IR) Transceiver Modules

Vishay Intertechnology has recently upgraded its TFBS4xx and TFDU4xx series of infrared (IR) transceiver modules for IrDA® applications. These enhancements bring a 20% increase in link distance and improved electrostatic discharge (ESD) robustness up to 2 kV. With support for data rates of up to 115.2 kbit/s (SIR), these modules are tailored for wireless communication and data transmission across various sectors, including energy meters, industrial automation controls, mobile phones, and medical equipment. Notably, these modules boast low power consumption, with an idle supply current of less than 70 μA and less than 1 μA in shutdown mode. This focus on efficiency aims to prolong battery life in portable devices.

Each device within the TFBS4xxx and TFDU4xxx series integrates a PIN photodiode, infrared emitter (IRED), and low power control IC within a single package. Leveraging Vishay’s latest in-house IC and surface emitter chip technology ensures long-term availability and facilitates seamless drop-in replacements for existing devices, thereby streamlining costs by eliminating the necessity for PCB redesigns. These devices comply with the latest IrDA specification, ensuring backward compatibility and are available in surface-mount packages. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green, offered in various sizes. Operating between 2.4 V to 5.5 V and -25 °C to +85 °C, they suit diverse environments and applications.
