MLX91211 – High Accuracy, Hall-Effect Current-Sensing IC for Traction Inverter and E-Mobility Applications

MLX91211 Hall-Effect Current-Sensing IC from Melexis

The MLX91211 is the latest hall-effect current-sensing IC released by Melexis. The new sensor is optimized for cost-sensitive applications and comes in 2 variants viz. the ABT version with multi-temperature trimming of the sensitivity and high accuracy, and the ABA version with default trimming and standard accuracy.

The MLX91211 is a second-generation medium-speed current sensor that can sense the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through a conductor (cable, bus bar, or PCB trace). From 12 V starter-generators to cost-sensitive 48 V inverters (BSG/ISG), traction inverters (e-scooters, low-speed EVs, E-forklifts), the MLX91211 is used in various applications that have lower bandwidth and lower accuracy requirements.

The AEC-Q100 Grade 0 qualified sensors and operate at the ambient temperature range from -40 °C to 150 °C in automotive environments. The MLX91211LUA-ABT is factory-calibrated at three temperature points, enabling increased accuracy for motor control in more demanding use cases.

The non-intrusive sensors, when combined with a ferromagnetic core, can generate an analog output proportional to the current flowing in the cable or bus bar. The output signal has a 40kHz bandwidth, and the sensor features a step response time below 10µs.

The MLX91211 sensor ICs will enable designers to create competitively priced modules by combining the high accuracy (sensitivity thermal drift better than 1.5%) for a superb driving experience. The MLX91211 series sensors are in full production and are available in both TO92-3L (UA) through-hole and TSOT23-3L (SE) surface-mount packages.
