AOZ6762DI and AOZ6763DI - High Switching Frequency Synchronous Buck Regulators for Consumer and Network Equipment
Alpha and Omega Semiconductors has introduced two new high switching frequency and simple to use synchronous buck regulators, namely AOZ6762DI and AOZ6763DI. These new converters are capable of providing low on-resistance power stage in a 3mm x 3mm DFN 8-lead package with an exposed thermal pad for cooler power conversion in a variety of consumer and network equipment such as wireless AP/routers, set-top boxes, cable modems, audio equipment, and LCD TVs.
The devices were designed with two power MOSFETs that are optimized for efficient synchronous switching to minimize both switching and conduction losses, this helped the device to achieve >90% efficiency at full load operation. When there is a low output current condition, the device runs in a proprietary pulse energy mode (PEM) to achieve higher efficiency by reducing switching loss, this also allows the system to achieve low standby power required to meet the “One Watt Initiative”.
The combination of high switching frequency and low minimum controllable on-time allows the device to deliver low output voltages from a 12V bus making the device a suitable power converter for next-generation SoCs, FPGAs, and ASICs using deep sub-micron processes. The user can trade off transient response and output ripple requirements with various output filters.
